Updated over 2 weeks ago

Visana Health is a full-service medical clinic with the ability to evaluate, treat, and prescribe weight-management medications when they’re needed. Our approach is centered on treating the whole person—not just the number on the scale.

Through shared decision-making, we partner with you to co-develop a long-term plan that supports your success and helps you feel your best for years to come.

How we approach weight management

Our team partners with you to create a personalized treatment plan that may include:

  • Root cause and treatment of co-occurring medical issues

  • Nutrition guidance tailored to your lifestyle

  • Support for sleep, stress, movement, and metabolism

  • Ongoing coaching and follow-up

  • Medications when clinically indicated

How we determine if medication is right for you

Your provider will complete a thorough medical evaluation, which may include:

  • A detailed clinical assessment

  • Lab work to rule out underlying conditions and determine the safest, most effective treatment options

Medications Visana providers may prescribe:

Depending on your unique health needs and medical history, your provider may consider FDA-approved options such as:

  • Metformin – often used for prediabetes, diabetes, PCOS, or insulin resistance

  • GLP-1 medications (such as semaglutide) – prescribed when FDA and medical criteria are met

  • Other FDA-approved weight-management medications, when appropriate

Insurance coverage

Coverage for weight-management medications varies widely among insurance plans. Some medications—especially GLP-1s—may:

  • Require prior authorization (typically takes 5 - 14 business days)

  • Not be covered at all

  • Have specific medical criteria that must be met

Please note that if you do not meet medical criteria for the medication, your insurance may not cover the medication, and you may be responsible for the full cost of the medication.
